Why Window Position Matters When Choosing Blinds

INSPIRATION

When choosing blinds for your home, window orientation is one of the most important things to think about. The direction your windows face affects how much sunlight and heat enters a room throughout the year, which in turn influences comfort, privacy and energy efficiency. Understanding these differences can help you choose the most suitable window coverings for each space.

North facing windows

These windows will not receive a lot of direct sunlight in Summer even during the hottest part of the day. Window covering solutions such as  and which allow for adequate light to filter through, whilst still maintaining privacy, are ideal for north facing windows.

North facing windows receive minimal direct sunlight in summer, even in the middle of the day. Because these rooms often stay naturally bright and pleasant, window coverings that soften light without blocking it are ideal. Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings and Luminette® Privacy Sheers allow filtered daylight to enter while still providing privacy, making them a great fit for north facing rooms.

South facing windows

South facing spaces are known for being cooler and darker in winter. Bringing in more natural light can make these areas feel warmer and more inviting.  Luxaflex® Silhouette® Shadings are well suited to this, with soft fabric vanes suspended between two sheer layers. The vanes gently diffuse daylight and filter UV rays, creating a warm, glowing effect that brightens the room and enhances comfort.

Silhouette® Shadings can be paired with several cordless manual operating options, including EasyRise and Ultraglide, or upgraded to PowerView® Motorisation for effortless control. With PowerView®, you can adjust your blinds using a remote, smartphone or tablet, and you can create custom schedules or Scenes that move your blinds automatically. You can even sync them with sunrise or sunset for ideal light control throughout the day.

East and West facing windows

East and west facing rooms receive strong direct sunlight year-round. In summer, this intense heat can make these areas uncomfortably warm, especially if they include large expanses of glass. In these cases, insulating window coverings Luxaflex® Duette® Architella® Shades are designed to help regulate temperature by controlling heat transfer. The unique honeycomb-within-a-honeycomb structure of Duette® Shades traps air inside multiple layers, providing excellent insulation. This helps reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, keeping the room comfortable at any time of year.
